SF, I’ll never get tired of you

Two weekends ago, J and I decided to do what we should do more often: head out to San Francisco for the day. Even though we live relatively close to the City (only 1,5 hours + BART ride), we don’t go as often as we’d like to. This time we just got up on Saturday morning and went!

We have this little routine when we go to the Bay Area that we park our car in Rockridge (East Bay) and have brunch at Rockridge Café before taking BART into the city. Their apricot scones are to die for!

Then we took BART to the Embarcadero and from there walked along the piers all the way to Fisherman’s Wharf. We got so lucky, it was a beautiful and sunny day with a little bit of a cool breeze. Just perfect! See for yourself!

We treated ourselves to some super-expensive ice-cream at Pier 39 (you gotta live a little!)…

… and then made our way over to the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, found a spot on the grass and just relaxed for an hour with a beautiful view of the historic Balclutha sail ship and the Golden Gate Bridge.

We walked all the way out to Fort Mason Municipal Pier to catch a closer look at the Golden Gate and a beautiful view of the city’s skyline.

I honestly don’t get tired of this, do you?

Later in the afternoon, we had coffee in North Beach at Washington Square, found a cute Italian restaurant for dinner and then headed back to Sacramento around 9 p.m. with the promise to do this soon again!

  1. You are SO lucky that you live SO close to SF! I went there for the first time last November and fell in love. It’s such a charming and beautiful city. I would never tire of the views. I love day trips like that as you can really pack so much into one day. I did a packed day trip like that to Asheville this past weekend and we had the best time exploring!

  2. well this is just the loveliest. SF really is a wonderful city.

  3. Wow! San Francisco looks amazing. AND that breakfast?! YUM! I love scones.

  4. It is such a beautiful city.
I have only been once for 4 days but I loved it.
It is such a different life over there in the US and it just sounds so nice to me to live close to SF and go there for day trips. I could look at your pictures for ever and day dream a bit. :-)
I don’t know if I would have the guts to really go to the US for good but I would sure love to live there for a while and get the feeling.
When I think back to SA, we had such a different life there to what we have now in Germany. I won’t say better, but different. And there are days I miss it so desperately.
And now autumn is around the corner and I just love this season but I also always get so restless and want to travel it almost hurts.
Luckily our Scotland trip is only 3,5 weeks away.

Show us more beautiful pictures of SF and Sacramento!!

  5. This makes me want to go live by the water. Lovely photos!

  6. :-) sf’s summer has only just begun, so many sunny weekends to come! when are you visiting again next?

  7. I really love that you are so close to SF and able to visit it on a whim. It really is a picturesque slice of America!

That’s the one thing I miss about living on the coasts … mountains and oceans are usually just a few hours away. Other cities are just a few hours away. Everything is closer. Things in the Midwest are much more spread out, so our options for places to go within a 2 hour drive are sadly limited.

  8. What a great way to spend the day….. Who wouldn’t love to just go to San Francisco for the day and enjoy all the good parts of this beautiful city!

  9. Beautiful photos – what a fun trip! I remember being there in the 80’s with my parents – I was about 10 years old and was totally impressed! I hope to return one day..who knows…
Have a fab rest of the weekend! xxx

  10. I really need to make my way back to San Francisco. I loved it so much. And I’d love to go now that I know so many people in the area!
