Handmade cards

ChristmasCards2012_Collage

I thought I’d showcase some of the handmade Christmas cards that I made this year. It’s been quite the production (I made about 70 cards and I still need more and am supplementing with some photo cards for family and some friends). Making cards is a long-standing tradition for me. Way back when I still lived in Germany, I used to get together with a friend for a couple of weekends before Christmas and we would make all our cards together. We drank copious amounts of tea, ate Christmas cookies, listened to Christmas music and crafted. I miss that. Doing it by myself is just not the same, but it’s something that I still do and enjoy to do every year!

My cards used to be more time-consuming and elaborate when I had to make fewer cards, but I had to streamline the process a bit in the last few years due to the sheer volume of cards I (happily!) send out every year. I still think it adds a nice personal touch to the holidays! I don’t think I could ever give up on sending Christmas cards!

Do you send Christmas cards or do you think it’s unnecessary and old-fashioned?

  1. Your cards are so beautiful! I didn’t send any this year, although I really enjoy sending and receiving mail. I almost feel like Christmas creeped up on me and now it’s nearly here and I’ve barely even done any shopping for presents yet!

  2. Your cards are lovely! You really are one of the most thoughtful people I know. As a single and then recently married person, I never really sent cards all that often (though, I’ve always been a stickler for sending hand-written thank you cards!). Now that we have Gavin, I’ve started sending family photo cards for the holidays – it’s actually been a mostly fun activity to add to the season.

  3. We do send out Christmas cards. But we like to design them on the computer and they usually include a photo of us! Very American! :)
Your cards are beautiful So tasteful and not too kitschy! Me liking it!
    Merry Merry!
    H&M

  4. Those are GORGEOUS! Have you considered selling them on Etsy?! I always say I’m going to send cards, but I rarely get around to it.

  5. those are gorgeous cards! :) i am probably not sending cards this year. i know, terrible of me to sign up to receive them and then not send them. :P i’ve just been bad about it, and i’m hoping nobody holds it against me!

  6. Somehow my comment didn’t post when I replied from my phone. Hmph. Those cards are gorgeous!!! I love the snowman one. Of course.

  7. What special and lucky people to receive a handmade card! You are sweet to do this.

  8. I’ve been sending Christmas cards every year since what feels like forever, but this year for some inexplicable reason, I just don’t feel like it. I’m trying to figure out why this is, but can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe 40 hit in me in the “no more Christmas cards!” way? Yours are lovely by the way, a work of art.

  9. Your cards are beautiful, and I always enjoy receiving them! I think it would be fun to get together with friends to visit and craft and drink lots and lots of hot chocolate – but alas, I’m not very crafty and neither are my friends. I can’t believe you make so many cards by hand – I think I made 8 by hand last year and I found it stressful :P

  10. Your cards are beautiful! Love them all! And, WOW, 70 cards?!! WOW!! xxx

  11. Wow! Those cards are SO BEAUTIFUL. You are so talented, lady!

I send cards, but I am lazy and just do photo cards (which is very untraditional for a single person, but oh well!).

  12. I’m super late to sending out cards this year, but I have to say I do always look forward to getting your card each year. I got this year’s yesterday and I love it – I wish I was more crafty.

  13. They are so cute! I got mine the other day! It’s so nice to get a handmade card in the mail! Enjoy your Christmas with your family!
