You don’t need to worry

I am still here.

I know, it’s been pretty quiet around here for the last couple of weeks. I guess I took a little unintended Internet break (at least from this space here). If you missed me, I am sorry.
I try not to disappear without notice (though if you follow me on Twitter, you know that I was alive and well). I think I was just a little bit wiped out from VEDA in August. I also attended a symposium from work at the end of last month, which was really awesome but which left me utterly exhausted, and then I had a myriad of things (of the bureaucratic kind, surprise!) to take care of at the same time. With all of that going on, I didn’t get to write as much as I wanted to. It wasn’t as much for the lack of ideas than for a lack of motivation to sit down and write out all my thoughts. There are a few things that have occupied my mind lately and I am hoping to write about some of this stuff soon.

On top of that, my blog has been hacked twice in the last couple of months and I am a little bit concerned. It was not in a bad way (nothing was deleted or anything) and I know how to temporarily fix it (it’s a corrupted index.php file inside the folder that contains your blog theme, which deletes your index page and which then needs to be replaced a file from the original theme installation), but I hope to find out how to prevent this from happening in the future.
If you have any WP coding knowledge and know of those kind of hacks, please share your wisdom! Since I don’t want to have this happen again, it might mean that I have to update my WP installation and take some precautions. I’ve also been thinking about revamping my blog layout and content a bit while I am at it. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back, re-evaluate and make appropriate changes. This might be coming as well over the next few weeks.

But for now, tell me, how have you all been?

  1. Hope all is well, friend! I’m sad you’re away now since I was away in August so it’s like I haven’t had my “San fix” for a month and a half now! ;) But I’m glad you’re taking time for you. It’s very important!

The hacking problem sounds annoying! So bummed you have to deal with that, but at least they aren’t messing with your posts!

  2. glad to see you’re back! i’ve taken the world’s longest internet, mostly blog, break but i hope i’m back as well.

i’m so sad to hear about your blog being hacked! i haven’t had anything like that happen to mine, and i don’t really know what to prevent it, but it makes me think i should change my password a bit more often than once every 5 years.. i hope it won’t happen again!

  3. I was really beginning to wonder where you’d gotten to lately, San! Sometimes life is just too busy and you need to take a step back. I think that’s totally okay. Life for me is super busy these days too, but I’m learning to juggle all my responsibilities for the fall & still in some ways getting back into life as usual after a whirlwind summer abroad.

  4. Glad you are back! Sorry about the blog being hacked. Hopefully you are able to resolve everything with it.

  5. I’ve missed your posts, but understand that we all need to take a little break every now and then!

I have nothing interesting or exciting to report. I have been so sick, all I have done is lay on the couch and mope!

  6. Haha, yes. And so are you… I’m happy to be back. I guess I faced something similiar these last weeks and months – so much other things were happening that I just didn’t find the time and energy to blog.
I’m sorry, but I can’t help you with this hacking problem. But I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you’ll work it out!

How are you doing? Is all well?

    xo. Nadine

  7. Welcome back! I missed you :) It’s good to take time away, though – sometimes I find I spend so much time documenting life that I forget to live it. When I start composing blog posts in my head, I know it’s time to step back!

  8. I know nothing about coding and that’s why I have the name of a guy. He helped me when my blog was hacked. If you ever run into an issue that’s bigger than what you can handle, let me know and I’ll send you his info.

  9. I wish I knew about coding. Everything I’ve learned I’ve figured out through trial and error and breaking my blog a few times. Hope your blog troubles cease!
