12 changes: March goal

Change of plans, peeps.

If you may recall, I had put reading a chapter every day as my March goal for 12 changes in 2012, but since I had been talking about the need to exchange some “want” goals with some “should” goals, I decided to set my priorities straight and make my goal for March to get back into a workout routine.

I am really embarrassed to admit that I had no regular workout routine since last summer. Things got busy around here, I fell of the workout bandwagon and have watched it go by (without making an attempt to jump back on) ever since. I do know that I feel better and have more energy when I work out and despite knowing better, I’ve jumped on every possible excuse when it came to the why I couldn’t go to the gym this day or for a walk in the park that day.

My gym was completely remodeled a few months ago and is much bigger with new machines and a new class schedule. I checked it out a couple of days ago and decided “This is it! This needs to take precedence and become my March goal” .

So, back to the gym it is.

My biggest hurdle is that I work 10-hour days, I am gone from 6:45 a.m. til after 6 p.m. and I am just beat when I get home. There is no way I can fit in a workout before work, because even though I’d dare to easily consider myself a morning person, my alarm clock goes off early enough as it is, but I am hoping that I’ll be able to go at least once after work during the week (Mon-Thurs) and then twice on the weekends (Fri – Sun). Once that becomes a habit,  I can then go from there.

What’s your workout routine? When do you work out? Do you have a regular workout schedule or just do it whenever you can fit it in?

Also, if you’re participating in the 12 changes in 2012 project, what is your goal that you hope to accomplish this month?

Come join us over at 12 changes in 2012.

  1. This is a great goal! I think you have set yourself up for success for not trying to do too much, because the key to exercise is to build up slowly. I think 3 days a week is a great plan to start with.

I workout about 5-6 times a week, for about 45 minutes – 1 hour each time. I’ve gotten to the point where I feel off kilter if I don’t work out at least 5 times a week, but it was a long process to get here.

    Cheering you on!

  2. i used to workout twice a week with my sister in law and her personal trainer. i was in such good shape. but, when that ended, i basically gave up exercise all together. i do play pickleball once a week for 2 hours, but as i’m getting older, it seems i need more of a regimented routine!!! good luck to ya!

  3. I really need to get back into a workout routine too. I used to run at least 5x/week but now I’m doing well to go once – and I’m supposed to be in training for a 5k. Hrmph. I have really long days too – my alarm goes off at 5:30 am and I don’t stop until after Topher goes to bed at 7pm. Then I’m so tired I don’t really feel like running or going to the gym or doing much of anything besides crashing on the couch! I think I might start running on my lunch breaks at work – that way I don’t have to give up time with Topher :D Good luck!

  4. Ok so don’t feel bad, because I have NO CLUE when i last worked out regularly! I’m excited to see how this month went for you!

I’m planning on writing a minimum of 30 min a day for this month. I need to get my thesis finished ASAP so I need to be writing at least 2 hours a day minimum, but I do what I can!

  5. this is one of goals too and i really need to get in on it. good luck!!

  6. It’s hard to get started again with a workout when you have not been in the habit for a while. I used to work from 6:30 to 6:30 and then I would run afterward. It was not easy or fun sometimes, but if I ate a snack around 4:30, then I would run right after work before I could make any excuse (in fact, closer to the office is better — once I got home, I was out for the count) and then I would eat a light dinner once I was done. And then bed. It doesn’t leave you a lot of time, but better to go running that to sit around reading blogs or whatever. The blogs will be there when you get back!

  7. Wow, those are some long days! Yikes! I pretty much always work out after work. In the summer, I will get up at 4:30-5 and bike before work on Tues/Thur so that it is out of the way and I can enjoy the evening, but in the winter, I usually run or bike after work. There is a gym in my condo building so that makes it easier for me!

  8. I do not have (and never had) a real workout routine and I have never been member of a gym…
I rather do it at home (and additionally outdoors in summer) whenever I feel like it. There are times when I workout like every other day and there are times when I do it only once in three weeks. ..

    Good luck to you!

  9. I like that you changed your goal to be more appropriate with where you are in your life right now. =) Sweets and I joined a gym at the beginning of the year. I’ve made it a habit to drop off Gavin at daycare and head straight to the gym on the days I work at home. That means, I’ve consistently gone to the gym Tues, Wed and Thurs every week. I’ve gone on the weekends a couple times, but would like to make that a more consistent part of my routine. I’ve also started a training program to reacquaint myself with running … with the hopes that by the summer, I will actually be able to run with Gavin in a jogging stroller!

  10. I try to work out after work, but it does make for long days. I’m a big fan of classes, which are an hour long, so if I go to a 6:30 class, I don’t get home until 8 and I feel like the whole day is gone. Getting over it and sucking it up is tough, but so worth it.

  11. I think your goal (3x a week) is VERY doable, and that’s the most important thing with accomplishing goals; they have to be realistic for YOU. Good luck this month- I’m hoping for some success with my budgeting goals for March!

  12. I’d love to be your neighbor so we can motivate each other because I feel ya. I’m not a morning person at all and I’m always so beat when I get home. I’d be so skinny by now if I could lose weight by THINKING about exercising, lol.

Anyways, good luck! You can do it! :)
