Let’s blog every day in November!

nablopomo2011

If you’ve been blogging for a while, I am sure have heard about NaBloPoMo before.
Na
tional Blog Posting Month.
Bloggers commit to update their blogs once a day for an entire month.

The whole thing was started in 2006 by Eden Kennedy as a goof based on National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). After she had failed to write a novel in 30 days, she decided that she could at least write a blog post every day for a month.

She put the idea out on the Internet, thinking that she could maybe get some people to join in and you know how people go crazy over ideas like that. The first year there were 2000 participants. By 2010 the official website had over 16,000 members. A blogging movement was born. You can get all your questions answered here.

Originally, the official NaBloPoMo month was November, but the idea has gained such popularity over time that people started doing it every month of the year now. Some months have themes and writing prompts are posted on the website. While I think it’s neat that people can participate any month of the year now (November is usually a busy month for many and maybe not the most convenient), I’ll stick to November.

I can proudly say that I’ve been participating for the last five years. I was one of the first 2000 participants in 2006 and of course, I’ll participate again this year! A lot of bloggers friends have done NaBloPoMo in the past and it’s been fun to have something to look forward to all year. It’s also an opportunity to find new, interesting blogs and meet new people.

To make 30 consecutive blog posts fun for you as well, I’d kindly like to ask for your help. This is your opportunity to chime in and let me know:

  • What would you like to read more about this next month?
  • Anything that you always wanted to ask but never have?
  • Any pictures that you want me to take and post on my blog?
  • Any other ideas, prompts, memes that you’d like to see in a blog post?

Inspire me! Ask away! Who knows when you’ll get this chance again! Also, this is the perfect time to de-lurk if you haven’t done so in the past ;)

Are you participating this year?

Let me know, so that I can come check out your posts and so that we can support each other!

  1. Woo! I participated last year, but I found that it was just too much for me. I felt like it really diminished the quality of my content, when I was posted because I HAD to instead of because I WANTED to. I won;’t be doing it this year, but I love reading along as other people participate!

  2. Can’t do it. It is too time consuming for me. There is a reason not be on FB anymore which is the time issue! But I love to read more blog entries next month though! :)

  3. Y’know, I struggle with NaBlaPoMo. For people who consider themselves writers (in the blogosphere and beyond), I understand the importance in writing everyday. It’s an exercise to get writing juices flowing – it forces thought and putting thought into words, even when the writer just isn’t feeling it. And that’s a great exercise for a writer.

But, a lot of bloggers aren’t writers … or, at least not in that way. I definitely fall into this category of writer. We write/blog because we want to. Because we have something to share. But, not because we’re trying to improve our writing or because we’re trying to complete a novel or something like that.

To be honest, I have gotten really bored with some of the past NaBloPoMo participants, because I feel like that month of writing dilutes their blog … the posts become less and less interesting, because they’re writing to fulfill some promise, not because there’s anything worthy to say. I don’t ever want to feel forced to write. And I don’t ever want to feel like I have failed at writing when I have nothing to say. That’s why I haven’t and won’t participate in NaBloPoMo.

  4. I never heard of NaBlaPoMo before. Sounds like a great idea – but I bet I wouldn’t be able to manage it these days, because I’m ALWAYS in a dang time crunch. Geez.

But I’d love to read something from and about you every day, of course. :)

What about book recommendations? Or movie recommendations? And what about a daily picture of something you do daily or on a regular basis, like going to work, having breakfast, whatever…

I really hope you are doing well?
Here’s to a happy weekend, friend.

    Love, Nadine

  5. I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year so I don’t know how much blogging I’ll be doing period! ;) It sounds like a fun challenge, though. Can’t wait to follow along!

  6. I would love to do this, but then people will definitely get bored, haha.

  7. I started with the November NaBloPoMo 2 years ago and have been doing it every month ever since. It is a fun challenge to post every day and I really enjoy it!

  8. I did NaBloPoMo two years ago and by the second week I found it to be such a chore that I eventually gave up. I struggle to write three posts a week, I can’t imagine doing 30 posts in 30 days! I always like picture posts – what’s in your purse? What’s on your bookshelf? Stuff like that. Wishlists are fun to read/look at too :)

  9. I’ve definitely thought about this and I think I have decided to do this …. but not publish my posts. Rather, I would like to get a healthy number of blog posts written up and saved to post during times that I can’t blog (finals week, vacation, etc.) So I’m playing along in my own way!

  10. This year I committed to blogging every day of the YEAR!Most months I did pretty good, there are some that I just couldn’t do it.. But overall I think that spending a long period of time where you push yourself to write every day is really great for your writing skills. I feel like my blog, my writing and my content improved a LOT by doing this.

I think you’re right though, it really depends on the person. There are some days where I just won’t blog because I don’t want to have a pointless post floating around anymore. I definitely go out of my way to find inspiration so that I don’t write something completely useless. Atleast, I try! :)

  11. I love it when people do that, I envy it if you really have soo many things to write about and time to do it…as a new blogger I would love to do it to maybe get a few more readers, but i doubt that will happen…I might try to do more than i did the last weeks (which was basically zero) but I guess every day is too much for me.

as for topics…maybe more new apartment pics..tips what to do in sacreamento for visitors, favourite foods, recipes…

  12. i tried to blog every day in october, but failed miserably. i’m so easily distracted with life, and crappy tv, and once i’ve lost the flow it’s soo hard to get back on track. i’d like to get into a better routine and blog more frequently though so perhaps i should give it another try.

  13. (Stumbling over here from Grumbles and Grunts…)

I am trying to get my ducks in a row with a BlogHer profile and whatnot, but I *think* I will attempt NaBloPoMo this year.

I identify strongly with what Nilsa shared in her comments and purport in no way to be writer. However, I’ve decided to go at this like A Challenge.

It could all very well go down the crapper, so we shall see!

  14. I’m definitely doing this. I’ve been attempting NaBloPoMo for the last couple of years and I always have fun doing it. Some of my posts are not the top quality posts they could be, but the rest are. It’s just a fun challenge to see what I can do. Last year, I believe I accomplished the whole thing, but I know the year before I missed a day or two. I don’t try to beat myself up or anything, so I just try to do my best and see what happens!

  15. I’m impressed you’re doing it again! I did it one year and it was too much for me – my work schedule fluctuates too much for me to be able to consistently get out good content. I do enjoy reading though, even if it puts me behind even further in my google reader.
