A new toy

So. I finally made a decision and bought a new laptop. My beloved DELL Inspiron 6000, which I had bought in 2005,  has been on its last leg, so to speak, and it was high time to finally get a replacement after over 6 years of impeccable service. Like most people I was faced with the very difficult decision: PC or Mac.

While I do love the Apple products (for the most part), I still have a hart time buying into the hype that is surrounding them. And let’s face it – MacBooks are just ridiculously expensive and you definitely pay for having an apple on the cover.

I’ve had the pleasure to work with Macs at work and must say that I’ve come to love them. However, DELL has really served us well in the past and since I just recently invested in Photoshop CS5 (for PC), I couldn’t really justify going the Mac route and having to invest in a new version of Photoshop. Besides, I just got a spankin’ new MacBook Pro from work, so I am really getting the best of two worlds.

To keep a long story short, let me introduce you to our new Dell XPS 17.

Isn’t it pretty?

It’s a little bulkier than I thought it would be, but that’s ok because it is mainly a desktop laptop and we won’t be lugging it around that much, although it’s proven itself difficult to find a laptop bag that will fit this thing! I’ve bought (and returned!) two bags so far that were supposed to be for 17″ laptops, but the Dell XPS would not fit. Same goes for the 17″ MacBook Pro, just FYI. If you have any suggestions in this regard, please feel free to leave me a comment. (Read: I’d really appreciate if anyone could give me a recommendation.)

Other than that, I am loving it. Windows 7 is really a step up from previous operating systems and I love the feel and prettiness of it.  I am really excited about the big 640GB  hard drive (my old computer had a lousy 80GB hard drive, which was the biggest one you could get in 2005 – imagine that!) and the processor is so fast. Absolutely amazing!

I love me a new pretty toy!

  1. So pretty :) Nathan and I are in the marked for a new computer and we’re 99% sure we’ll be going with a Dell, since that’s what we had in the past and it’s been fantastic! Neither of us are Apple fans!

  2. Congrats on the new toy! I absolutely love Windows 7.

  3. Wooo for new electronics. I am glad that you went with something that you love.

  4. It’s gorgeous!!! And I so agree on paying for that little fruit on the cover…however I couldn’t resist…even though I do have a PC as well!:) Congrats and have lots of fun with your new beauty!!! Love Dell!!

  5. I absolutely LOVE Macs. But I have never been able to justify getting one. They’re wonderful, but when I think of the thousand dollar difference and what I could do with it, I just can’t buy one. My dell served me well for a long time and then I got a Toshiba Satellite. I love new gadgets! :]

  6. I love my Dell XPS as well! Although I only got a 15″ to make it a smidge more portable, but I still find it pretty bulky (especially with the extended life battery). Sorry I can’t tell you about any magic bags for your 17″.

  7. That’s great! Congrats!! I also had to return the first case I bought for my new MacBook Pro 13″. Try Incase cases, they seem to be made for Apples, and might fit your Dell as well.

  8. aww, i love it! i think i fould my sleeve at a local best buy or something. also, check tj maxx and the like. i found a great roxy messenger here a while back that holds my 17″ perfectly :) otherwise, crumpler. but the big one they have that holds a 17″ is huge. i sold it again after having used it twice or so…

  9. Oh my gosh. I SOO agree about Macs. No, I don’t want to pay an extra whatever to have an apple on the cover, blahh!

So, yay to new toys…it’s lovely!

And yay to it almost being when your parents visit. I’m excited for you!! :)

  10. It looks pretty but I have to admit I’m a Mac-lover. I don’t think I could ever own a PC again. I’m jealous of the processor speed you have though! :)

  11. Powerful toy you got there! I must say Dell XPS collection is second to the highest end of their PCs.

Btw, why don’t you check out the Mobile Edge laptop bag, though it’s a bit bulky.

    Enjoy your new toy!;)
