Happy Self-Love Day, 2010!

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovelies!  While I like the romantic idea of today, I don’t buy into all the commercial crap that surrounds Valentine’s Day. Therefore, I started participating in Snackiepoo‘s Self-Love Day last year.
Four years ago, she declared that Valentine’s Day should officially be also known as Self-Love Day  and I digg it. I think it’s a good time to remind ourselves about what we’re worth to… yes, ourselves. Today is the day that we post a little something that we like about ourselves and ask others to reply with the same!

No more “how much do I love thees”… but rather ask yourself the question, “how much do I love ME?” Even if you have a special someone, take the time to think about yourself today. List your good qualities, have some positive perspective on who you are and treat yourself better than you ever have.

Here’s how the whole thing works:

1.) You’re gonna grab yourself a banner. If you don’t like the one I’ve used in this post, you can find another one here.

2.) You’re gonna post that banner and then tell us all something that you really like love about yourself (thus, the “self-love” portion of our program).

3.) Ask or beg your readers to post one thing that they too love about you!!! If your blog friends are nice, you shouldn’t have to beg…much.

4.) Enjoy yourself and spread the love by doing this on your blog!

So, here’s one thing I like about myself right now… I (would like to think of myself that I) am a  thoughtful person. I try to do little things to brighten your day – write you notes/emails, buy you a special little gift, give you a call,  ask how things are going in your life. I make it a point to not forget your birthday (even if you have forgotten mine in the past).  I send out little note-cards, just because. I’ll give out a compliment, not because I’d like to get one in return, but because I genuinely mean it. I’ll listen, if you need to vent. Whatever I can do to make your day a little better, I am here to do it.

Now it’s your turn: tell me what you like about me (this is the one time per year I can ask this without feeling too desperate, so comment away!). And also let me know what you like about yourself, either in your comment or by posting this on your own blog! I’d love to come over and let you know what I like about you!

Spread the love!

I like me, okay. I think I am a good, loving and caring person, but….I would find it hard to do the self love thing as I think I would feel awkward. I didn't do chocolate, but Hubby did get me some beautiful flowers and a silly card. And I cooked for my cousin, friend and Hubby a nice meal. And I enjoyed every moment! Perhaps it's not the typical Hallmark moment, but it was a lot of fun!

  2. What I like about you: you're genuinely sweet and kind, and you're great at being helpful. Happy Valentines Day! See ya soon.

  3. I love your voice when you write. There are only a handful of bloggers I consider myself unofficially e-bbfs with when I read their posts, and you're one of them. I mean that in a non-stalker creeptastic way… your voice just shines when you write and it makes you seem like a real, all-around amazing wonderful REAL person. And I love you for it.
As for me, I am too PMS-induced hormonally unable to self boast (at this precise moment). Hehe.

    1. Ah, thanks. I like to hear that I come off this way… hi e-bff :)

  4. I love your unconditional love towards your family and friends. I am quite jealous of it because I haven't been able to develop such a relationship with both my family and friends. It is amazing to see that when you write about them.

  5. Well what's not to like? Oh I know you live way too far away!!!!!! :)
I wish you would live closer so I could discover more things I like about you!!!! :)

  6. I like you because you send me a christmas card even though we only know each other online and have never met (I love getting “real” mail – well except for bills and Spam – and christmas cards are just not so very common here). I like it if people reach out to “strangers” and aren't taken back if someone new approaches them. That's something my hubby does, he thinks surfing online to find other peoples blogs and become friends with them is weird and reading other peoples blogs he calls “online stalking”…totally not my opinion!

What I like about myself is that I am a very straight-forward person. I do not, for the sake of peace, avoid arguments or discussions if I feel they are necessary (hubby hates me for that sometimes because I usually win with my carefully-thought-of arguments). I will tell straight in the face if I don't like something and feel the other persons behaviour wasn't right. I have lost friends because of that but believe that a friendship is only real anyways if it survives a needed (and maybe painful) discussion.

  7. Awww, thank you, you're so sweet. I'll see you soon.

  8. Thank you. My family and friends are most dear to me.

  9. Oh, I wished you lived closer too, hon.

  10. Irene, you're very welcome for the Christmas Card. Thank you for reading my blog. I wish I would be able to know more about your life (but then I guess I should be more active on Facebook, because you do post there more often ;)).
I definitely agree that making new friends through the Internet is a little weird, but also SO MUCH FUN!!!

  11. You are very kind and helpful. I am still very appreciative of all the tips you sent my way before my San Francisco trip.

As for me, I love my nerdy side. I like that I have absolutely no problem curling up and sticking my nose in a book for a few hours.
