I am in love!

June 7, 2008 - day 341

I finally treated myself to the long-anticipated and longed for Canon Rebel XSI. I received an offer that I just couldn’t refuse… 15% off the regular price. Awesome!
You probably think that I have too much money to spare, which – I assure you – I don’t… but sometimes you just gotta live, you know?
I had saved up for this baby for a long time and it’s technically my very-belated birthday present, remember?, and not just a spur-of-the-moment-purchase.

Anyways, it’s absolutely amazing to hold this camera in my hands.
I am so in love!
If I only knew what to do with it…
I definitely have to learn a lot to be able to use it to its full potential, but maybe that gets me motivated to take a photography class or something. [Well, scratch the “maybe”, it DEFINITELY motivates me]. I can’t wait.
I spent the weekend just reading the handbook that comes with the camera and trying to get this “mirror-shot” the way I wanted it.

I know some of the terminology of photography already, but still have to figure out which setting does what.
Any tipps and tricks on how to use a DSLR are highly appreciated.
I am sure I’ll soon be longing for more lenses and all those accessories that people warned me about ;)

  1. Congratulations on your new camera! I know what you mean about a learning curve. I’m still learning all the fabulous things that my Olympus camera does. And I am still amazed.
    Have fun!!!

  2. No need to justify! You’ve gotta splurge sometimes!

Congrats on the new toy. :)

  3. Yay! Girl sometimes you just have to remind yourself why you go to work in the morning… to buy pretty things!! :-D
I’m eyeing them DSLRs myself and I swear, a good AUTO mode is high on my wishlist ;-)

Have fun with your new baby!!!

  4. Uhh, just bring it over when you come! We so can help you with that. Looking forward to see you in two weeks. Love, Susi and John

  5. Please.. Just don’t go auto.. Play with the different settings and learn. I’ve heard it’s a good idea to read the manual, but I still haven’t..

  6. Oh you´finally did it! That’s so exciting! And uhmm yes there will be more purchases. Probably soon. That’s what happens in my family at the moment.

  7. i hear ya. i hear ya. i read the manual right around three times so far (most of it anyway) and i still don’t think i know (or understand) half of what the settings really do. i confess to using auto-mode when i “need” it = a situation where i simply need to take photos and they don’t have to be awesom. but other than that, i try to just play with the settings… either way, we will have to TALK soon! :)

  8. Wow…cool, new toy!!! I am bad with understanding the manual, too. Have fun with the new cam!!!

  9. That is awesome. It is really great to see that people are interested in photography. I admire anyone that can appreciate and capture the beautiful things we overlook in life. Hope you enjoy your new toy.

  10. hey, that’s great you were able to treat yourself good with the long desired camera. and since you are a really good photographer i am sure you will have fun with your new gadget:-)

  11. im jealous =( will auch endlich eine haben. aber wenn ich eine hätte wüsste ich bestimmt auch nicht so recht wie man damit umgeht..noch nicht =) find ich toll! viel spass damit und freu mich schon auf die ersten fotos =)

  12. great!!! i was playing with this one my self, but I was kinda sad that it didnt have liveview in the auto stetting. :) are you bringing it along when you come over in july? ;)

  13. Congrats! Enjoy your new toy!!

I’m so jealous!! I would like to get that one, too. Or the D40!!
